Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find an ever-expanding list of things I've been asked, however frequently or infrequently.

What's the point of this?
You can use RecPath to plan training runs, bike rides, road trips, getaway routes, and airtight alibis. Sort of like a pedometer or odometer except you don't have to wait until you've been there to know how far you're going.

Who uses this thing?
Mostly people with host names and IP addresses, as far as I can tell. I hear from runners, cyclists, and triathletes using it for training. I've gotten a lot of support from Lance at Scottsdale Running Company, who published the first link outside of an email from me.

How do I use it?
It's simple to use: locate your neighborhood on the map using the built-in pan and zoom controls then click on the map. Click again somewhere else. You'll see a line connecting the points. Add more points for more interesting routes. Insert points you forgot, remove points you don't want, or click a little thing that looks kind of like a grey brick to remove all of the points.

Use the Satellite or Hybrid maps if you're going to travel on recreation paths, canals, railroad tracks, or trails.

Read the help for more information. That should get you started but if you're still confused, email me using the Feedback form.

What's your deal?
I was just born this way.

Are you insane?
You couldn't prove it.

How did you do the address search?
I use geocoder.us. Contact me if you'd like to reuse the code.

I liked the bike routes on the old version.
Can you put those on this map?

I haven't figured out a good way to do that yet, but I agree it'd be cool. If you can think of a way to do it, let me know.

Can I put this on my site?
If you just want to link to this site that's cool, but check the license agreement before you redistribute or modify it. Otherwise, I'm going to need lawyers, money, a fortified compound in Texas, and probably some guns. I'm just not up for that right now, so please play nice.

Will you link to my site?
Couldn't hurt to ask.

How can I request a feature?
Use the Feedback form.

If I request a feature, will you build it?
Maybe.

Please?
I'll think about it.

I found a bug. Will you fix it?
If you're nice about it, you can report it on the feedback page and I'll try and fix it.

How can I get you to implement my feature?
Beer is the muse that inspires my work. Chicken wings contain the grease that lubricates the programming machine. Free stuff is the ballast that counterbalances my laziness. Cash is a ready substitute for any of the above. Bring me these things and features you shall receive.

Is this the first step of a larger plan culminating in world domination?
Yes.

I have a nephew/cousin/cell mate/pet chimp who knows computers. Could you give him/her a job?
I'm not hiring right now.

You embody everything I consider important in a person. Can I bear your children?
Stop it. You're making me blush.

Know any good bike rides?
Yes:
There's this Fountain hills loop
A Cave Creek loop
Around the Phoenix Mountains
This one time from Tucson to Phoenix
This one other time in Orange County
